10 Annoying Words and Phrases Girls Use That Could Be Driving Guys Away (Or At Least Nuts)

Before we get into the meat of this post, a quick note to the girls: this post is not meant to pick on you.

Quite the contrary.

In fact, it’s meant to help you. It’s meant to help all of us.

Outside of Indiana basketball and oxygen, what is more important to our daily lives than communication? Not much, if anything.

So whatever we can do to improve communication is a positive.

That’s my goal here…and to have a little fun while we do it.

And yes, I am planning a companion post geared towards the guys, but for that I will need input from the ladies in the comment section. So don’t hold back.

Just be sure you don’t use any of these words or phrases in your comment. They may not actually be driving guys away, that seems a bit harsh; but they’re not helping. And they are definitely driving guys nuts.

I’m fairly certain of that, like, totes for sure. (I know, right!?)

3 Ideas That Will Guarantee Personal Growth By Making You Better At Failing

I can be a real nincompoop sometimes.

I’ve been getting the Experience L!fe magazine for months now, ever since I signed up with Lifetime Fitness. But for myriad foolish reasons, I have not taken the time to read it.

This weekend I am correcting that mistake and realizing what I’ve been missing.

Yesterday I wrote about four quick lessons for sustained weight loss that I learned in the most recent issue.

Today, I want to offer up a few ideas from Jessie Sholl in this month’s issue that, when embraced, guarantee personal growth by enabling us to to fail better.

4 Quick Weight Loss Lessons I Just Learned That Will Help You Too

Losing weight is a difficult process, especially as we get older.

I’m in the middle of that process right now, have been for a couple of years now, and have found it far more challenging than it used to be.

Today, however, I find myself inspired and reinvigorated.

Do What You Say You’re Going To Do

This morning while driving into work I turned off the radio and turned on a podcast.

Rather than listen to sports talk, I wanted to listen to something that might enlighten me, teach me something, inspire me in some way, leave me with a thought or nugget or anecdote and push me forward in my day.

Idle, mindless noise had no place in my car this morning.

Specifically, I listened to Tripp Lanier’s interview with Jon Rose; and I got what I was looking for.

Do You Take Time To Listen To Your Body, Your Emotions…Yourself?

An old boss once told me, “Your mind is like a computer: the output is going to be a function of the input.”

Those words have always stuck with me and are part of the reason why I try – albeit not always successfully – to be cognizant that whatever I am read, watch, and listen to, will create or reinforce positive messages.

One way to input good stuff is to listen to podcasts, which I’ve made a concerted effort to do more of over the past 18 months, and one of the podcasts I have enjoyed the most is Tripp Lanier’s New Man Podcast.

Grammar Lesson: Do Punctuation Marks Go Inside or Outside of Quotation Marks?

While editing an article over at MSF, I came upon an interesting grammar question that I did not immediately know how to answer.

This sentence was submitted by the author:

In the early stages of the season, I’ve done a lot of talking about the trio that I have labeled “the comeback kids”: Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, and of course Adam Dunn.

My question was whether the colon should go outside the closing quotation mark or inside, as it varies in standard U.S. grammar depending on the context and punctuation mark in question.

The fine folks over at grammar-monster.com helped me out, so I am writing a quick post recapping what I learned to solidify the information in my mind and help out anyone who has the same question.

Video: The ‘Diet Doctor’ Andreas Eenfeldt on Benefits of High Fat-Low Carb Diet

Another day, another extremely eye-opening video in regards to diet and health, this one featuring Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt aka the Diet Doctor. (And yes, this one was sent to me by the same brilliant – literally, he’s a genius – uncle who sent me the one I posted yesterday.)

Here is the note that accompanied the video:

Another video in the same vein as the first, but some a different slant. Comes to the same conclusions.
I would recommend it. I am throwing away my chips and Goldfish forever.  Bacon cheeseburger (with no bun) here I come!

Again, if it’s good enough for him, I’m certainly going to watch and strongly consider, which I just did. And now I share with you urging you do the same.

As for my update on the new eating regimen I started over Christmas break, it’s coming. I planned to do it this morning but spent the time watching this video instead. I think it was a good choice. But stay tuned. I’ve discovered some interesting things on my own even in the short time since I decided to radically alter my diet, and many of them have put me in the mindset to watch this video and the one from yesterday and wholeheartedly agree.

Video: Dr. David Diamond On ‘How Bad Science and Big Business Created the Obesity Epidemic’

I plan a longer post in the coming days with the latest updates in how my diet change and quest for increased personal discipline is going, and I can tell you that the information I learned (or, perhaps more accurately, had confirmed) in the video below will feature prominently in it.

Great TED Talk by Simon Sinek: “How Great Leaders Inspire Action”

My wonderful Aunt Nini called me up excited several nights back after watching a TED Talk that had been recommended by a co-worker, the name of which she couldn’t remember. After describing it and piquing my interest, she texted me some time later with the name.

After 48 hours of unnecessary procrastination, I watched it…and was predictably inspired.

Recapping My First 10 Days As a ‘Real Food Flexitarian’

Since December 25th, 10 days ago, I have not eaten a single piece of meat of any kind. During that same time frame, I also have had almost nothing to eat or drink that was processed in any significant way. (And yes, this includes chewing gum, a former staple of mine; have you ever looked at the ingredient list?)

And I can honestly say that I have never – never – felt better.

In this post, I will recap my first 10 days as a real food something-atarian (we’ll get to the name in a bit), including what spurred the change, how I’ve gone about implementing into my life, and the specific ways that I’ve been impacted positively by doing so.
